Jackson nad a larger proportion of voluntary cuusiments tnan any county in Worth Carolina. These boys are not participating in the Third Liberty i-oan. But for the excellent reasnn that they invested everv rinifar tho WUmot they could spare from their pay in tne second loan. last fall. The aver age monthly pay of the bovs in thi Camps is, I would say, somewhere m the neighborhood of $35.00. Prac tically every one of the Jackson county boys, along with multiplied thousands of others, bought from 1 to a fifty dollar bonds. 'It is indtw gratifying to the boys to read the list in The Journal of the subscribers to the Third Liberty Loan anion . .. - cj the folks back home. It is subs tan tial proof of the pledges made to us when we left last summer that you would back -us to the last dollar. But nlAaainfS AH io tha oi Wenyille far attained, it h not enough. We snoum every one hang our heads i shame if Jackson fails to ik over the top with the full quota. If it were possible to bring home to every man and woman in the coun ty the full significance of the war, what it-means to every one of us and to our county, with a sense of personal responsiblity, the quota of the county would be over subscrib ed, and Mr. McKee and the banks would have to hire extra clerks to take the subscriptions to fhr loan ifinvfrnnr nri Vfrm t ur d:i,av I as they come pouring in. pcoi. MESSER WOUNDED As a result of a clash hot Deputy United States Marshal C!ha C. James was serioualv woundwl and it was thought tar a while that he would not recover but the latest report is that he is resting very well and the attending physician thinks his chance for re covery is good. It is reported that the party had a very enjoy able time and a large catch of fish. Governor and Mrs. Biekett were very successful in their catch and proved themselves real sports. i mey were particularly enthusi astic over the beauty of this section pf the mountains, delighted with he inhabitants and the evidences pf progress, epecially among the farmers. They were particularly attracted by th. grass farms and he herds of cattle grazing thereon, They expect to return to Jackson county for another fishing trip in certain trout streams, extending through the season of 1918. The Governor and Mrs. Biekett while in (kenville were the guests of Mr. and J Mrs. W. M Fowler. W. 8. 6.
